Book Report
I think I will start making 'book reports' on my monthly books from zooba. I really enjoyed the book I got. I actually got it in the mail the day I was complaining about jonesing and not getting it yet. I have read it 4 times already. It's one of my 'trashy' romance novels. Great background story. Great obligatory sex scene. Yes, it's one of my guilty pleasures, the sex scene.
'A Dark Champion' by Kinley MacGregor. I do not usually purchase nor check out of the library a book written by an unkown author. I have been disappointed too many times. However, the synopsis for this book intrigued me. I love the 'historical' books. I took a chance. I paid $10 for a book of an unknown. Considering I normally don't spend $5, it's kind of a scary thing for me. I used books to 'escape' a lot of things when I was younger, so for me disappointment in a book is different for people who read for the fun of it. Books are part of my self-therapy. I need them.
This author did not let me down. My 'hero' was a so called brute at the set out. He turned out to be deep, compassionate, passionate and very protective of 'the little guy'. He had a mission in life, a noble cause. He did not fight for the entertainment of it, he fought because it was necessary. This is something I require of all my 'heroes'. No matter what kind of book it is, this is what I look for. Very visual settings. My imagination was fired up from the get go. I could not put this book down. I got mad when my husband interrupted me. This should tell you that it was that good. (I multi-task extremely well, this only happens when I am very involved in my reading.) My 'heroine' was spectacular too. She was not a needy woman. She understood her man. She did not wish to 'tie him down'. This is also something I require.
If you enjoy romances, this book is highly recommended. I found that it is part of a series of books. It is actually the second book in the series. This is the only thing that disappointed me. If I had realized that, I would have scoured my local library to find the first one. I do not like to read books out of order. That said, the story was complete in and of itself. I did not actually need to read the first book first, it's just an obsessive thing I do. I will probably read this book again tonight. Maybe all month. We'll see if I can find something else to distract me.
Happy Reading. I will be getting another book around this time next month, and I will tell you all about it. It's supposed to be 'The Morgawr: The Story of the Jerle Shannara' by Terry Brooks.
